"Cottage-ing"...

Image Whatta week. Where do I start? Well, I guess at the beginning of the week. On Monday, we drove 2 hours northeast into Quebec, traveling through the Laurentians (beautiful!!). We ended up at a cute cottage on a small but serene lake. We were invited by some good friends, back in June, not knowing that the timing would be both good and bad. It was good because we really needed the break and distraction, but bad in so far as it was the same week that Patrick had an important job interview. So Patrick drove 2 hours every day, for four days straight (yeah, real relaxing). So that was less than ideal but in the end, good things came of the interview (Patrick will be writing soon...). But let's just say that we're not going to mind living in Ottawa for a while, especially now that we know these beautiful lakes and mountains are so close by.

Rain, Rain...

Image Yesterday, Patrick timed his ride home from the library right when the rain was coming down in buckets. As he walked his bike up onto the porch, he kicked off his dripping Birkenstock sandals and called out the kids: who wants to go play in the rain???? Well, Brigitte was at the door in seconds, reaching for her rubber boots and Felix wasn't far behind. Daddy assured Brig that she could just go out in her bare feet this time. But our well-trained Brigitte would not risk it saying "there might be glass on the ground!!!" So, here is where I leave you...the pictures tell the story.

Water & Icecream

Image I can't believe I'm saying it, but I'm glad it's August already. It's been a different summer this year, as all our traveling and visiting was done in June. I guess I've been getting used to those cross-country road trips that last the whole summer. It's been a change of pace here at home. Patrick's back in the library full time (and I think we see the end in sight!!) So, it has been quieter in some ways but I can't say it's been all that relaxing. Our days have been so hot and muggy that going for a walk is just no fun. We've been seeking out water nearly every day. Thankfully, we live in a great neighborhood where 2 wading pools are within walking distances. We're having fun on the weekends - getting out of the city and pretending for a few hours that we're camping. Ok, so I'm a bit sarcastic. It's not my dream summer but we're trying to make the best of it. Some exciting things coming up in the next weeks. I'll keep you updated...
