Corinne enjoys the feeling of the gel on her belly Wow! We had an ultrasound today and it was really incredible. We had one in Canada before we left, but the baby was only about 7 weeks and you couldn't see anything except the heart beating. This was really amazing.
Well, amazing that we actually got it done. We had tried to get one a couple weeks ago but we were informed that we had to wait until December 20. So yesterday Corinne went to the doctor again and he checked some stuff. She told him about the long wait and he gave her a note to give to the ultrasound doctor in Civitavecchia. you can see the leg here We went to Civitavecchia (Cheety, as we call it) today, expecting to be told to come back another day (as things usually happen here). When we got to the place, there was virtually nobody there, and the ultrasound doctor was sitting there doing nothing. So he did the ultrasound right away, and we were out in 45 min. The guy (Dr Fiaschi) was very nice, efficient, and professional. He didn't really speak any English, but at this point we can basically get by in Italian anyway. As happened yesterday during the medical exam, the kid had a prolonged spat of hyperactivity. After finding and measuring a few things, it took the doctor about 15 or 20 minutes to find the second of the 2 kidneys because the kid wouldn't stay still for a second. leg still visible, also the tip of a hand It was really amazing to see this child of ours actually moving around. Sometimes he (we don't know the gender but I'll just use he for now) would suck his thumb, and he had all these rapid kicking motions and arm wavings. the umbilical cord protrudes from the belly of our kid At one point, he was sitting like the "Great Thinker", with his hands under his chin and his legs curled up. Needless to say, we are pretty excited and pretty proud. measuring the cerebellum (I think) During the procedure, I just stood there, pointing our camera at the monitor, waiting to catch anything cool. Corinne just lay there, watching the screen and letting me know when the kid was really moving (although it was pretty evident from the screen). head, body, stomach is indicated I'm including some tiny versions of the images from the ultrasound. I took lots more, but ultrasound imagery is notoriously hard to decipher, so they will probably all look the same to most of you. (Heidi, let us know what you think!) Here the doc indicates the arms and hands Anyway, the bottom line is that the kid has TWO kidneys and is otherwise healthy, vigorous, and strong. Corinne thinks the kid will probably be born early, based on the intense physical activity he is doing. We'll see! front of the face, and body face/skull, body head, body, spine visible |
